“The Battle of the Rif in Morocco” Oil on canvas Signed in the lower left corner. The Rif War in Morocco began in 1909, and in 1921 the Spanish suffered the great defeat of Annual, a city located between Melilla and the bay of Al Hoceima, thus winning the Rif rebels commanded by Abd el Krim. The fighting ended in July 1927, recognizing the Spanish protectorate, which was lost with the independence of Morocco in 1956. It shows occasional deterioration on the canvas.
