JOSE CAMARON Y BORONAT

(1730 / 1803)

JOSE CAMARON Y BORONAT Segorbe (Castellon) (1730) / Valencia (1803) "The Pharaoh giving Asenath as his wife to Joseph" and "Abraham and Melchizedek", around 1756-60

Pair of oil paintings on canvas These works were probably part of the set of 46 canvases that Camaron made for the choir of the Vall de Crist charterhouse, in Castellon. The canvases were located on each of the walls of the seats occupied by the Carthusian fathers and which he made from 1750 to 1960. The group was dispersed throughout the 19th century with the French invasion first, and the confiscation of MLateizabal later. Both scenes refer to passages from Genesis and represent a very good example of the quality of the painter from his beginnings, which led him to be named an academic of merit at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in 1772. Measurements: 75 .5 x 45 cm (ochavado) each
