AUSTRIAN SCHOOL POSSIBLY SALZBURG (15th CENTURY / ?) "Pieta

Carved and polychrome wood Examples of similar carvings exist in different museums such as the Cleveland Museum of Art (inv. no. 1971-67). The term used in Germany and Austria for the iconography of the Pieta is "Vesperbild". It can be related to a work of similar characteristics that was auctioned at Christie's London, "Old Masters Part II: Paintings, Sculpture, Drawings and Watercolours" lot 104, December 2024. It has small flaws and refreshed polychromy. Provenance: -Jan Dirven works of art, Antwerp 1997 -Private collection, Madrid Measurements: 54 x 50 x 18 cm
