EMILE-RENE MENARD Paris, France (1862) / (1930) "The Bather

Pastel on canvas Signed in the lower right corner. On the back of the frame labels of P. Navez, Paris and "Dr. Llobet Collection" Emile- RenE MEnard is one of the most prominent representatives of the French Symbolist school. He specialized in twilight landscapes with mythological references, often made with pastel, even applied directly to the canvas, as in this case. There is a version of this work made in 1912 published during the artist's lifetime in “Peintures et pastels de RenE MEnard” (Librairie Armand Colin, Paris, 1923, p.33). Origin: -Witcomb Galleries, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Acquired in 1968 by the father of the current owners Measurements: 107 x 74 cm
