ITALIAN SCHOOL, POSSIBLY ROMAN (2nd 1/2 17th century) "Noe's Drunkenness"
Oil on canvas. On the back, old collection label on the canvas and label of the Delegate Board of Seizure, Protection and Salvage of the Artistic treasure ((inv. no. 10497, col. no. 15) Origin: -Seville (19th century), Jácome collection and Arias de Saavedra (no. 230); -Pamplona (19th century), Alzugaray collection?; -Madrid (20th century), José María Gaztelu collection (no. 15). With an important frame made of carved and gilded wood with decoration of bands of Latehy leaves, contario, twisted cord, alternating cake with contero and palmettes. Its formal characteristics correspond to those of the Roman school of the second half of the 17th century. to the conservation of a collection label on the back, we know that this painting was in Spain as early as the 19th century, in the Jacome y Arias de Saavedra collection in Seville. Its presence in the Madrid collection of José María Gaztelu has made us aware. allowed us to know that it formed a pendant with another work with a biblical theme representing Cain and Abel, with which it shares the same style and framework. Measurements: 99 x 134 cm.
