SEVILLIAN SCHOOL (2nd 1/2 17th century) "The Virgin Girl Spinning"

Oil on canvas. With an origin in Seville, possibly in the Zurbarán workshop, the sweet images of the Virgin girl spinning, with the spindle in her hand, were widely disseminated in the Sevillian school of the Baroque and, consequently, in the New World. , becoming a recurring theme in viceregal painting. The theme had its roots in the apocryphal gospels, such as that of Pseudo-Matthew, in which it is mentioned that the Virgin was frequently involved in wool work; attributing other texts to him as the author of the Temple veil. Measurements: 75.5 x 54.5 cm.
