HISPANIC FILIPINO SCHOOL (17th century) "Painful"

Carved ivory plaque This piece was possibly commissioned for private devotion. The Virgin Mary is the main figure and is located before the tomb of her Son and surrounded by the attributes of his Passion. The composition is supported by an inscription at the bottom: "Posuit me desolatam tota die maeore confectam" ("He has left me desolate, in pain all day long") (Lamentations 1:13). It is therefore a meditation on suffering and trust in God. It has minor flaws. This work has a valid CITES certificate with nº ES-MT 50910/24C issued in 2024. Measurements: 12.5 x 8 cm
