HISPANO-PHILIPPINE SCHOOL (17TH CENTURY) "San Diego de Alca

Carved and partially polychromed ivory San Diego de Alcala was canonized in 1588 and was a very popular saint during the 17th century both on the peninsula and in the overseas provinces. The carving presented here can be compared with a Saint Anthony of Padua from the Cluny Museum reproduced in Margarita M. Estella's book "La escultura barroca de marfil en España", cat. 634, fig. 274. It has some flaws. On a later base. This work has a valid CITES certificate with nº ES-MT 50545/23C issued in 2024.
