Female bust of gilded wire, Spain, mid-20th century
Starting price 100 €
The Ikenga statue represents a dignitary seated on a chair and wearing a high headdress with three heads, snakes and animals intertwined. In each hand he holds powerful symbols, a spear with a human head and an elephant tusk. They are considered gods that symbolize success and victory. They are characterized by complex hairstyles that, once again, use the theme of horns. These statues are displayed during ceremonies and strengthen the sense of community solidarity. Reproduced from the catalogue “Africa Babel: the Art of a Continent”, p.-28 right. Height: 126 cm
