MASTER OF THE ROAD Active in Palencia (1/3 16th century) "San Gregorio and San Juan Bautista"

Oil on panel There is no unanimity among historians about the personality of the Master of the Calzada, some considering him as an independent painter trained in the workshop of the Master of Alejo (Pilar Silva Maroto) and others (Isabel Mateo, Alberto Velasco González), thinking that both would integrate a single personality. In any case, his activity is part of the transition from the 15th to the 16th century in Palencia, and his painting reflects the influence of Juan de Flandes and the transition from Gothic to Renaissance forms.
