NICOLAS ENRIQUEZ Mexico (1704 / 1790) "Virgin of Guadalupe"

Oil on canvas. Signed. A prominent painter of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, Nicolas Enriquez was a member of the first academy of painters established in Mexico. It is not known exactly if he was born in this city or in Guadalajara, but what is perfectly proven is that he was a disciple of Juan Rodriguez Juarez (1675-1728), one of the promoters of the aforementioned corporation. Regarding his production, he is remembered mainly for his paintings on copper, being considered as one of the best artists painting on this type of support. This painting that we present here, representing the Virgin of Guadalupe, is an excellent example of his works on canvas and is signed in the lower register, at the feet of the Virgin. Measurements: 210 x 140 cm.
