PETER VAN LINT Antwerp, Belgium (1609 / 1690) "Saint Peter

Oil on copper Presented in an old moulded, gilded and polychrome frame (with flaws). The back with old tablets with a repeated inscription: "Manuel Rodriguez Palacio episcopal Burgo de Osma". Needs cleaning. Born and educated in Antwerp, a pupil of Roland Jacobs, he followed the style of Rubens, copying many of his works. From 1633 to 1640 he was in Rome, evolving towards a more classicist style, although without losing its Flemish nature. His style was maintained upon his return to Antwerp, working for important patrons, such as the monarch Christian IV of Denmark. His works were frequently imported to Spain, so it is not unusual to find his works in private Spanish collections. An example is this copper, similar to a signed canvas kept in the Guardiola collection in Seville (o/l, 116 x 166 cm, signed) and published by Sirga de la Pisa.
