OSIAS BEERT I WORKSHOP (c.1580 - 1623-24) "Still life with fruits, glasses, knife, cheese and plate with oyster, chestnut, lemon and sweets"
Oil on panel This important panel, of high quality and with an excellent provenance, brings together all the elements present in the compositions of the Flemish painter Osias Beert, specialized in still lifes and one of the most influential painters of this genre in Flanders. Trained in Antwerp with Andries van Basero, in 1602 he was already a teacher at the Guild of Painters of Saint Luke. His production is divided between making vases and bouquets, which become more open and naturalistic over time; and the production of so-called breakfast still lifes, as in this case. This panel, composed with common elements in Beert's works, presents an unprecedented composition. It also has a high point of view, which allows the incorporation of a greater number of elements, treated with a different perspective and in an individualized way, which reduces a certain naturalism and unity, but making an effort to focus on the material qualities of each object. These types of very special still lifes were very successful, and Beert had numerous collaborators who helped him in the creation of the works, including his son Osias Beert II, who was one of the main followers of his painting. )Provenance: -Count of Montarco (erroneously identified in his inventory as Clara Peeters) -Private collection, Madrid Measurements: 32 x 43 cm
