Wax Agnus Dei, 18th - 19th centuries

On the obverse there is an inscription "Ecce Agn Deui Qui Tol Pec Mun " and "Bened XIII An IVB" and on the reverse there is a relief with the miracle of Pope Pius V and the inscription "S.Pius V P M". These medallions are part of a tradition of the Catholic Church that dates back to the early centuries. They were made with the wax of the previous year's Paschal candle and were blessed by the Pope on Easter Wednesday of his first year as pontiff and every seven years thereafter.
